As political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 elections, Delta State Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr Charles Aniagwu, has said Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s campaign will be anchored on the administration’s record rather than political mudslinging.
Aniagwu stated this during an interview on ARISE NEWS while responding to criticism of the administration, political clashes and allegations made by opposition figures.
He said the government would present its projects, policies and programmes to Deltans and allow voters to assess the administration based on its record.
“Our campaign is going to be evidence-based. We will be showcasing what we have done, what constitutes our report card,” Aniagwu said.
He listed infrastructure, healthcare, education, empowerment and financial management among the areas the government would highlight during the political season.
The commissioner said the administration’s projects were visible across the state and argued that political narratives should not replace evidence when assessing government performance.
Financial Management
Aniagwu also defended the administration’s handling of Delta’s finances.
He said the state had improved its internally generated revenue while pursuing debt repayment and other fiscal measures.

The 2026 Delta budget projected N250 billion in IGR and allocated N1.165 trillion, representing about 70 per cent of the budget, to capital expenditure.
The budget also included a zero-borrowing strategy.
Aniagwu said the government was deliberately using improved fiscal capacity to support workers, businesses, infrastructure and social interventions.
He argued that the effectiveness of the government should therefore be judged through the implementation and impact of its programmes.
Political Clashes
On recent political clashes, Aniagwu said isolated confrontations should not be interpreted as evidence that Delta State had become generally unstable.it
He stressed that political differences should not result in violence, regardless of the political party involved.
“Whether you injure somebody in APC, or you injure somebody in NDC, or any other political party for that matter, you are trying to inflict injury on a Delta or somebody who lives in Delta,” he said.
The state government recently ordered security agencies to investigate a political clash involving suspected supporters of the NDC and APC in Effurun.I
Response to Omo-Agege
Aniagwu also rejected allegations by former Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, that his life was under threat.
The commissioner said anyone who believes they face a credible security threat should report the matter and provide evidence to the relevant security agencies.
He said the government respected Omo-Agege but denied any involvement by Governor Oborevwori in threats against him.
ARISE NEWS reported the same exchange in August, with Aniagwu maintaining that Oborevwori had no reason to target Omo-Agege, who is seeking a Senate seat rather than the governorship in 2027.
MORE Agenda and Tinubu’s Reforms
Aniagwu said the administration would continue implementing the MORE Agenda despite political activities surrounding the 2027 electionsformer
He also defended Governor Oborevwori’s support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, saying Federal Government reforms had contributed to improved revenue flows and fiscal conditions for states.
The commissioner said the administration would continue presenting its record to Deltans, leaving voters to assess projects delivered, policies implemented and their effects.
INEC’s official election calendar currently schedules the governorship and State House of Assembly elections for February 6, 2027.
