EFCC, ICPC, DSS, Police Urged to Establish Facts in Umaisha Hospital Dispute
Apache Samule, Lafia
The controversy surrounding alleged donations to General Hospital, Umaisha, has deepened following conflicting accounts from Ibrahim Abdullahi Sa’ad and some workers at the health facility.
Sa’ad, the lawmaker representing the Umaisha/Ugya Constituency, alleged in a viral video that items he bought and donated to the hospital had been looted.

He said the items included 50 orthopedic mattresses, 50 ceiling fans and 40 standing fans.
According to him, the disappearance of the items raised serious questions about the administration and management of the facility.
But some staff members of the hospital, speaking anonymously, gave a different account of the donation.
They said Sa’ad visited the hospital around December 2023 and donated 10 normal student mattresses, 32 standing and ceiling fans and some solar-powered equipment.
The staff members said the quantities they witnessed at the time of the donation were different from those contained in the lawmaker’s recent public statement.
With the two accounts now at variance, stakeholders have called for an independent verification of the claims.
They said investigators should establish the exact items purchased, the quantities delivered to the hospital, who received them and what happened to them thereafter.
The stakeholders urged authorities to obtain relevant documentary evidence and interview individuals who participated in the donation and subsequent management of the items.
They also appealed to Governor Abdullahi Sule to involve the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Department of State Services, Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission and the Nigeria Police Force, alongside credible media representatives, in the fact-finding process.
They said such an approach would help protect the integrity of the investigation and provide the public with a credible account of the incident.
The stakeholders added that if wrongdoing is established, those responsible should be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The controversy has also triggered wider discussions about transparency and accountability in the handling of donations to government-owned health facilities.
