‘He Thought PDP Chairmanship Was His Birthright’ — Wike
By Our Correspondent
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has made a fresh revelation about his longstanding disagreement with former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Deputy National Chairman, Chief Bode George, alleging that George’s wife once attempted to walk him out of their residence in Abuja.
Wike disclosed that the incident occurred when he was still serving as governor of Rivers State and had visited George’s residence in Maitama, Abuja, to appease him following a PDP national convention.

The statement was contained in a post shared on the official X handle of Lere Olayinka, Special Adviser to the FCT Minister, on Saturday, August 8, 2026.
According to Wike, the disagreement stemmed from George’s ambition to become National Chairman of the PDP and the zoning arrangement adopted by the party at the time.
‘He Thought the Position Was His Birthright’
Wike alleged that George was unhappy after his ambition to lead the PDP was frustrated by the party’s zoning arrangement, which, according to the minister, favoured the South-South geopolitical zone for the position.
The FCT Minister said George acted as though the chairmanship position was his personal entitlement.
In the statement attributed to him, Wike said:
“He wanted to be PDP National Chairman, and was carrying on like the position was his birthright. We stopped him because it was the turn of the South-South. Since then, he has not stopped being angry.”
‘His Wife Tried to Walk Me Out’
Wike further recounted what he described as an uncomfortable encounter at George’s Maitama residence.
According to him, he personally visited the former PDP national deputy chairman in an attempt to reconcile with him after the party’s convention.
He said the visit, however, almost ended abruptly when George’s wife allegedly attempted to walk him out of the residence.
Wike stated:
“As a sitting governor, I visited his house in Maitama, Abuja, to appease him after the national convention, his wife attempted to walk me out, but for the intervention of former governor of Ondo State, Olusegun Mimiko.”
Mimiko Allegedly Intervened
The FCT Minister said the situation was prevented from escalating through the intervention of former Ondo State Governor, Olusegun Mimiko, who, according to him, was present during the encounter.
The revelation comes amid renewed disagreements within the PDP over the party’s leadership, zoning arrangements, internal structures and the political direction of some of its prominent members ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Wike and George have, at different times, expressed sharply contrasting positions on the affairs and leadership of the opposition party.
The latest allegation by the FCT Minister has therefore added another layer to the longstanding political disagreement between the two PDP chieftains.
