Aggrieved members of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Kaduna State have called on the national leadership of the party to urgently address the disputed Kawo Constituency House of Assembly primary and restore what they described as the mandate of Rakiya Baba Mohammed.
The demand was contained in an open letter dated September 18, 2026, signed by Comrade Silas Matthew Jonathan and other aggrieved party members across Kawo, Hanyin Banki, Ungwan Dosa, Ungwan Shanu/Abakwa and Badarawa/Malali wards.
The group alleged that Rakiya Baba Mohammed, also known as Rakiya Asabe Nakorji, won the NDC primary conducted on May 29, 2026, with 225 votes against 132 votes secured by Yunusa Mohammed Salisu.

According to the petitioners, the results were compiled and endorsed by the Returning Officer and security personnel present at the exercise.
They further alleged that voting was successfully concluded in four wards, while the exercise in Badarawa/Malali Ward was cancelled following disruptions.
The aggrieved members accused some party officials of subsequently attempting to substitute Rakiya with Yunusa Mohammed Salisu.
They also alleged that the development was influenced by Yunusa Tanko, identified in the letter as the father of the rival aspirant and Interim National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement Worldwide.
The allegations have not been independently established in the sources reviewed for this report, while public reports subsequently indicated that Yunusa Muhammad Salisu was published as the NDC candidate for Kawo Constituency ahead of the 2027 election.
The group consequently demanded the immediate and unconditional recognition of Rakiya Baba Mohammed as the NDC candidate for Kawo Constituency.
They also called for full recognition of her candidacy by the relevant organs of the party at both state and national levels.
The petitioners further demanded an end to what they described as internal manipulation, exclusion and administrative actions capable of undermining the outcome of the party’s primary.
They warned that they would pursue the matter through legal, institutional and democratic channels until, according to them, justice was served.
The group also criticised what it described as attempts to intimidate individuals speaking publicly about the dispute, citing a lawsuit reportedly filed against Miss Nmaa Ukbapi.
They called on the NDC leadership to intervene urgently and prevent the controversy from deepening.
The letter was signed on behalf of aggrieved members of the NDC in Kaduna State, who said their campaign was aimed at defending internal party justice, democratic principles and what they regard as the legitimate mandate of Rakiya Baba Mohammed.
